Printing on Fabric- Patterns In-Store Class

Limit: 6 students. All participants must be 15 years or older.

Class Details

When local printmaker Theresa Haberkorn suggested a class on carving rubber stamps and then using the images to create patterns, we were all in. We were even more excited when she explained that the class would print their patterns on bandanas. Something new for holiday gifts!

Making the stamps is easy – the focus is on simple forms. Theresa demonstrates basic carving techniques and describes what to consider in developing a successful pattern. Positive and negative space, types of repeats, and color choice are all factors. Once you’ve settled on some shapes and finished carving, playing around with the stamped images as you work out a pattern is just plain fun. Overlapping images and rotating the stamp are simple techniques for creating a design with visual rhythm and movement. Stamping in a spiral, wave, or meander pattern adds an additional dimension. So many options! Theresa encourages you to experiment by testing out your ideas on paper before stamping on bandanas. We think you’ll be wonderfully surprised at what can be made from simple stamps!

Class Materials

Please bring the following materials:

• Inspirational ideas and images/shapes/designs you’d like to print
• Apron or wear clothes that could get messy
  
• Optional: favorite pencil and/or a waterproof black pen

Class Materials Include:

• 2 bandana blanks per person
• Carving tool to use and keep
• Ink, rollers, markers, transfer paper, carving block, gloves, paper towels, etc

Class Refund/Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.

Instructor Bio

Theresa Haberkorn has been making art since she was very young, and started her formal studies at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts In St. Petersburg, Florida. After receiving her BA from the University of South Florida in 1994, she has exhibited her award winning woodcut prints in national and international galleries and exhibitions. Her work can be found in museum and corporate collections including The Denver Museum of Art, The Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art in Denver, Colorado, The Children’s Hospital of Denver, and the St. Regis Hotel, Aspen. Theresa has been awarded artist in residencies at the Grand Canyon National Park on the North Rim, and the Art District of Breckenridge Colorado. Theresa is also a member of Boston Printmakers, Wood Engravers Network and is also a printmaking instructor at the Art Students League of Denver and in her studio in Boulder, Colorado.
