Travel Journaling, A-Z In-Store Class Mar 7
Travel Journaling, A-Z In-Store Class
Saturday, March 7, 1-4pm
Instructor: Fran Meneley
Limit: 6 students. All participants must be 15 years or older
Class Details
Travel Journaling is fun and easy. The bonus? It enriches the experience a hundredfold. Doing it requires only a blank journal and a few art supplies tucked away in a small case – nothing fancy! And you don’t have to be an “artist”. Just willing to carve out a little time here and there to quietly write, paste, and draw.
Learn this simple approach to travel journaling from Fran Meneley, a veteran traveler and a prolific journaler. Her experience is that journaling helps us step outside of ourselves and makes us more attuned to what’s going on all around us. We notice the smell of a dusty road, how good a coke can taste far away from home, and the expressions on people’s faces while waiting for a train. These small details are the soul of the journey and become precious memories when recorded.
Fran shares with you what she’s learned from years of creating her own travel journals. For example, she talks about which tools work best, what overlooked items are fun to collect, and how to include lettering. She also shares myriad techniques. Particularly helpful are her templates for laying out a page. Practice everything as you “mock up” a journal in a simple handsewn book that Fran has made for you. (She provides directions so that you can later make one on your own.)
In addition to the small journal, Fran provides a large bin of travel ephemera from her collection for you to work with. Feel free to bring in some of your own. You’ll leave class with lots of ideas, a simple process, and a sample travel journal to inspire you on your next trip.
An email will be sent to participants the Monday before the class. Classes with homework may receive pre-class info earlier. No email?
