Class Details

This newest class from Santa Fe artist Jone Hallmark is – wait for it – Santa Claus! He’s an old world kind of guy, happily poring over his list and checking it twice. He’s looking forward to the traditional celebrations on December 6th, which is known across Europe as St. Nicholas
Day. (It’s purely a coincidence that this class is scheduled the same day!)

Join Jone to create your own personalized Santa. He sports a festive at-home outfit instead of Santa’s iconic red suit. About four inches tall, he’s made from small wooden forms and painted with Jone’s signature patterns. They’re surprisingly straightforward. All that’s required are straight lines, curves, some dots, and maybe a few squiggles here and there. Jone shows how to add depth and interest by creating tone on tone patterns and layering colors on top of each other. Follow the patterns in the little booklet she’s drawn, or enjoy making up your own.

As a special touch, Santa holds a list that’s made out of a page from a vintage French book. Swipes of paint create spots for you to write in names. Voila! A little bit of Christmas magic!

This online class will be recorded and made available to class participants for 14 days after the class.

Class Materials

Please bring the following materials:

• Acrylic paints. Jone uses Deco Art Americana, which comes in small plastic bottles, but other acrylic paints are fine. The Folk Art brand is comparable in price. You’ll need the following colors: red, yellow, blue, white, green, and brown. If you want to work specifically with Jone’s favorite colors, pick from the “Go To” list included in your kit.
• Paint palette - a clean, flat lid from a food tub is a great recycled option
• Scissors for fine cutting
• Favorite brushes for painting (tiny brushes are included in the kit for detail work)
• Jar for water
• Paper for practicing brush strokes and the designs (good weight copy paper is fine)
• Pencil and eraser
• Rag or paper towel to wipe your paintbrush on
  
• Aleene's Tacky Glue
• Baby wipes or similar for gluey hands
• Optional: apron

Class Kit Includes:

• Jone’s signature booklet of charming designs and instructions
• Peg doll
• Parts for base, arms, legs, list, and optional hat
• Small "detail" paintbrushes
  

We ship class kits approximately 2 weeks before the class via USPS Priority or UPS. You will receive a tracking number (check your spam folder) once your kit ships. Kits can only be shipped within the USA. If you’re outside the USA and would like to take the class, please contact us for information.

Zoom Info

An email will be sent to participants the Monday before the class. Classes with homework may receive pre-class info earlier.  The email includes class date/time, materials list, pre-class prep, and Zoom link/info. No email? Class Refund/Cancellation Policy - Online Class with Kit

For cancellation made 3 weeks before class we can either issue a refund or apply the funds to another class. We deduct the price of the class kit plus shipping if we’ve already shipped the kit, and we retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled. If you cancel fewer than 3 weeks before the class there is no refund or credit. If Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, we’ll contact you by email and refund the FULL class fee.

Instructor Bio

Santa Fe artist Jone Hallmark, who says of herself, “I tend to work in a two-inch square!”, has created her own little world of magical delights. Each tiny wonder – from the cleverest fox or hedgehog to a charming parade of flower-bearing young girls – is handcrafted from paper clay, wire, wood, and other tiny bits and pieces. Her sophisticated yet simple designs show the influence of both her father’s Scandinavian heritage and the intricate painted miniatures she collected when living in Switzerland. Her affinity for using small, ordinary objects comes from her mom, also a graphic designer and artist. She taught Jone that you can make just about anything you want instead of going to a store to buy it. Jone’s creative life started on the floor of her father’s studio, where she sat as a child surrounded by brushes, paints, and a treasure of paper.

Her passion for design eventually led to work developing store displays, award-winning lines of decorated papers, and the beloved Bryce and Madeline stickers. One day, after twenty years of licensing her artwork for other people’s products, Jone realized that she needed to get back to basics and simplify. In that moment, her tiny little world was born.
