Seeing/drawing is about life in its fullness, about learning to see again and thereby be totally alive and fully aware. -Frederick Franck, Twentieth Century artist and author
Artist, author, and creativity coach Cynthia Morris had always been attracted to meditation but was uncomfortable with traditional approaches. She explains why by saying of herself, “I can’t sit still!” She discovered the Frederick Franck book Zen Seeing, Zen Drawing: Meditation in Action in 1996, fell in love with the method, and has been practicing it ever since. Cynthia developed this beginning drawing class to share the practice with others. The class combines two disciplines – drawing and meditation – to help people slow down and become more mindful. It’s amazing how a conscious focus on drawing everyday objects quiets the mind.
You’ll experience these calming effects firsthand as you work with Cynthia. The class starts with some instruction and some simple drawing exercises. Cynthia’s years of practice, both working on her own and coaching others, has given her valuable insight into building a daily practice. She generously shares her experiences – both what worked and what was challenging – and answers your questions.
Join Cynthia to experience the transformative power of doing simple drawings on a daily basis. The tools are simple: a pen or pencil, some paper, and less time than you might think. The value is huge: a state of heightened awareness in which you tune into yourself but also see more of what’s around you. A previous student said, “It changed how I frame the world.” This class is really less about the drawing itself than where drawing can take you.
