3D Collage - Windows on the World In-Store Class
Saturday, Mar 1, 1-5pm
Instructor: Fran Meneley
Limit: 6 students. All participants must be 15 years or older.
Class Details
These fascinating little slide boxes are filled with memories and imaginings, treasures and offerings. Created by local artist Fran Meneley, they’re miniature scenes fashioned from intimate moments of reflection. Fran likes to think of them as windows into other worlds. These little boxes are a great way to showcase found objects, bits of nature from your special somewhere, small keepsakes, or other whimsies.
Class begins with a bit of history on three dimensional collage. Fran shows inspiring examples that have been made by others who enjoy this artform, and she shares suggestions on generating your own ideas. The rest of the class is for making your own little “windows on the world” from small paper slide boxes. Create something representational or abstract – wherever your imagination leads you!
Fran brings in small items and ephemera from her collection for you to work with, but she encourages you to bring in personal items. Think about complimenting or contrasting what’s on the outside of the slide box with what’s revealed when it’s opened. Whatever you decide, enjoy exploring this 3D variation on collage while making a little window on the world for yourself or someone close to your heart.
